We have now been here for one month, and we are beginning to engage in our self-designed service-learning projects. Victoria and I are doing our project together for three hours a week. We will be spending time, doing various activities with the home people of Solheimar, some of who are in the nursing home here.
Last week, we went to the nursing home to see if they liked our idea. We were greeted by the residents with warm, wide and loving smiles. After talking with the nursing home director, she told us that they don’t often get visitors, and that our idea, of spending time with them, would be very helpful to the nursing and would bring the residents much joy.
It felt very good to receive such a warm welcome from the residents there and they seemed to really enjoy our presence too. It was fun to see elderly folk with such vibrant and alive expressions. I am really looking forward to getting more engaged in the project, which will begin this week! -Ben Kamens
